Homework

February 17th, 2009

Last night I played “The Sims” with Adrian. The familly we were playing had 4 kids. After school each kid brought home their homework, and so I was busy telling each of them to do their homework or telling their parents to help them.

Adrian: “Mom.. I want homework too”. Then I was litterally laughing.. does he think homework is fun?
Me: “Don’t worry honey. You’ll get homework from school”
Adrian: “Yeaa…. but which school?”
Me: “Anak Langit (his school’s name) of course. Where else could it be?”
Adrian: “No, Anak Langit never gave me homework” *of course, why on earth would a playgroup gives homework :P
Me: “Then you ask your teacher to give it to you.. Ms. Noura, I want some homework please… Okay?”
Adrian: “Okay”

The next day (today) I called home and Adrian answered the phone. Read more…

Good night

February 11th, 2009

My family has a bad habit. We don’t like to sleep early, usually we sleep after 10… or worse, after 12 am. Then my son inherits this habit. He always sleeps late since he was a baby.

Before he reached 1 year, we had to take him for a ride to get him to sleep. After a while it didn’t work anymore, we then took him for a ride using our motorcycle, then he would go to sleep. After he reached 2, neither of them worked anymore.

“Why is night longer than daytime?”, he once asked me. I said, “Of course not.. and what’s wrong with night time anyway?” I asked him back. He said, “I like daytime cause I can play..”

I need to get to work in the morning, and maybe cause I’m getting old, I feel it so exhausting to follow his schedule these days.

A few days back I started to “force” him to get to sleep on MY schedule. First, I took him to bed at 11. Then I reduced it to 10 and last night I made it 9 p.m.

It’s not hard at first. He cried and screamed yelling “I don’t like sleeping Mommy! I want to play!!”.. Then I’d just turn my back and close my ears with pillow, hoping I wouldn’t hear his screaming.. but still, it’s always louder when you hear a child screaming in the middle of the night :P .

Then after a while he poked me and say “Mommy! Mommy!”. And when I turned my face to him he said, “I love you mommy…” he said, still crying. How heartbreaking it sounds to hear it form that little mouth. Then I held him and say, “I love you too honey.. But you have to do what I’m telling you. We need to get to sleep now, I have to go to work tomorrow morning and you need to go to school…”. He started crying, “Noooo.. I don’t like sleeping.. I don’t like sleeping..!!”. I put him back to bed and leave him cry to sleep.

To tell you the truth, I never had a heart to leave my son cry to sleep like that. But I think sometimes being hard is necessary…
